"If you grow up near the Aalsmeer flower auction, it almost seems logical to end up working in the floral industry."

It's a phrase I've heard many times, although it didn't quite apply to me. My background and training weren't directly linked to floriculture, and my interests extended beyond the auction house. From the beginning, what truly attracted me was the commercial side, especially in an international environment. I've always been motivated by connecting with clients from different countries and cultures.

That opportunity came early in my professional career when a wholesale horticultural company offered me the chance to participate in the creation of its export department. That experience marked the beginning of my career in international horticultural trade.

Exporting is a highly specialized field. Each country has its own regulations, documentation, and procedures. Over the years, I developed in-depth knowledge of export operations, customs management, and international logistics, further supported by specific training in customs clearance. This combination allowed me to merge commercial vision with operational execution.

What makes exporting special is its diversity. Every client is different, and every destination presents new challenges. One day it might be an urgent shipment to South Africa, the next a pallet by air to the Middle East, or a full container bound for Australia. Exporting isn't just about selling products; it's about advising, coordinating, and offering reliable solutions on a global scale, often working across different time zones.

With over 32 years of experience in the international horticultural sector, I have held various positions, from back office and logistics to planning, international account management, and export management. Throughout this career, I have built an extensive international network and long-term business relationships based on trust.

In 2025, I founded MAEX (Mareta Export) in Spain with the aim of offering professional horticultural solutions and structured international distribution for producers and agricultural companies. Today, MAEX operates in various international markets, combining commercial expertise with operational reliability.

I firmly believe in long-term relationships, operational efficiency, and professional standards in international horticulture. At MAEX, every customer is equally important, whether it's a small shipment or a full container, because lasting relationships are built on trust, consistency, and reliability.

I regularly work in Dutch, English, German and Spanish, supporting international clients with the same commitment that has guided my professional career from day one.
